We don't have Thanksgiving down to a perfect routine. Sometimes we eat early, sometimes late. Some years, like this one, family joins us, but other years we have feasted alone.
No matter how the day plays out, certain details and memories combine to form a great holiday lineup.

1. White lights or multicolored? I like multicolored.
2. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Each has its advantage. Bags are recyclable, but I think admiring a decadent bow and ripping through tape offers more gratification.
3. Silver Bells or Jingle Bells song? Hey, Jingle all the way!

About three years ago a friend of mine gave me a book for Christmas called "The Polar Express". I had never heard of this book and wasn't quite sure why she sent me this children's book as a gift. After reading it, I know why. She knows that I still "hear the bell". Subsequently, I gave my father a copy of the book the following year, for the same reason.
